Politics Before Welfare of NS Trainees?

The decision not to renew the contract of Yayasan Selangor's Ampang Pecah NS camp after spending RM4.04 million to renovate is rather baffling.

While there have been reports of appalling conditions of some of the camps by NS trainees themselves, one has been renovated to upgrade its facilities but its contract is not renewed.

No reason is given. Is it that the renovation has not met the high standard and demands of the NS authorities? But what is the benchmark to use a facility? Nothing is given except the authorities are not obliged to renew any camp site.

It is a fact the camp site happens to be under the administration of the Pakatan government. Is this the reason why it was not renewed because the authorities want to teach the Pakatan fellows a lesson and deprive them of income to repay for the renovation?

Until a valid reason is given, the decision not to use the campsite will be seen as a political decision than one that puts NS trainees welfare first.

Which tells of the state of this supposedly BolehLand aspiring to be a developed nation, but the mentality of the authorities and government will still be feudal in nature. We don't want to see good things done for the welfare of the people. Each government is out to punish one another for their own selfish reason. It boils down to money and the power and control of the flow and direction of money.

In this case, no money to Yayasan Selangor means no money for Pakatan Government to balance the accounts. So let it go into the red and then come out and champion to rescue it!

In the first place, why allow things to rot and standby and watch it rot and when it has sufficiently gone to the dogs, announce some salvation plan to rescue it and then claim glory?

Noone knows the account for the NS programme. Who gets the bulk of supply the uniform, who decides on the camp site and who manageress the campsites, whether they have powerful political links or not.

Why are they persecuting Yayasan Selangor and victimise the NS trainees in the process, just to tighten the stranglehold on the opposition government. The message the government is sending is that it subscribes to the 'i scratch your back you scratch mine' way of taking care of the citizens. Those who did not vote for them are being victimised and punished if they do not pay taxes or obey laws of the federal government.

Let us hope the citizens will show their displeasure at such juvenile mentality to victimise those who were told of their right to exercise their choice to choose who they want but when they have made their decision they are punished for it.

Well at least Yayasan Selangor is taking it in stride and look for ways to recoup the expenses. We wonder why they upgraded the facilities for the NS purpose if they are told before hand the venue won't be used again!

Rather than just give a reason it is not selected and the perogative is on the government, in the name of transparency and accountability, the authorities must reveal why the site was not selected. This way one can use the information as a benchmark to check if other camps with lesser facilities have been selected.

Why are the reasons not revealed? If you let the public know, then those who wish to participate will know what they are in for right?

This the 'government is not obliged' has been used too many times. The federal government is not obliged to give federal funding to State government under opposition rule, it is not obliged to lower the toll because it needs to be oblige to the operators based on contracts drawn by the government, it is not obliged to be fair and just in awarding contracts, scholarships, jobs, etc because it has to uphold the constitution and Article 153 which it has created itself, it is not obliged to renew the camp sites and not obliged to give any valid reason.

Given this rather flimsy no reason why the camp is not selected, one can assume that the sincerity to safeguard the welfare of the NS trainees has taken a backstage over politics, no?

In a nutshell,  in the quest for power and power struggle, the welfare of the people have always been set aside. Makes the 1Malaysia concept more myPeople first, even if they can't performance. huh?
