The Scorpene subs that became a canine joke:
Q What is the similarity between a Scorpene Sub and a chihuahua?
A You can both issue voice command to say 'roll, jump, dive'
Q What is the difference between a Scorpene Sub and a chihuahua?
A The chihuahua will obey your voice command and cheaper to maintain.
The Socrpene well.. And even with the Scorpene you need to push buttons and turn dials it does not guarantee it obey your command and its astronomically expensive to maintain
Lately Pakatan fellos are trying to poke holes at their billion ringgit acquisition of naval vessels. One wonders if their top brass are spending so much time trying to provide satisfactory answers, do they have time to protect the security of our borders!
Perhaps it would be much easier to consider raising such matters as 'highly sensitive security matters like OSA information that is detrimental and threatens the security of the royalty, state and security of a race and religion.' Classifying all MOD's matters this way will stop all these meddling and let our defence bois jaga our borders like prevent illegal migrants from entering or leaving at their own will and so on, right?
The latest is the English translation in their website on 'ethical clothing'. And isn't this a proof and confirmation by our great leader 1Malaysia and past leaders that BolehLand is an Islamic state where ethical issues down to clothing is imposed too! And we are accusing PAS of wanting to create a hudud and Islamic nation, hah!
We have heard before of how our educated officials from the education system who incidentally have relegated English into a status like learning a second language like Mandarin and Tamil, - used computer ie Google translation from mandarin to English and not surprising from Bahasa Melayu to English.
We didn't know we employ Nihoen-jin in the civil service huh? But apology to our Japanese, at least they are way ahead BolehLand fellows using their mother tongue right?
Blame it on 'lost in translation' or Google for giving us the giggles huh?
But can we fault our MOD fellows really? If you are patriotic and loyal to your cause, you will, like a football advertisement by a world brand once advocated 'eat, sleep play football and drink..., whatever the cause right?
So, MOD being about guns, rockets, tanks, fighter aircraft and killer subs may have moulded our men and women into aggressive machines. The mentality and language are all about aggressiveness, - shoot your enemy, show them you are man, fight, shoot, kill, slash, poke at body parts to maime or kill, aim at the throat, eyes and so on. So that may explain the 'poke eye' reaction towards anything that don't conform to military standard eh?
So, it's forgivable if they mentioned no attire that 'poke eye' ethical dress code. At least they didn't translated as 'red eyes' or 'eroticism to the eyes and other body parts' or 'dreamy eye' or 'horny on the cob' or 'steam the visual organ' or 'attire that steam the organs visibly' right?
Can we blame our defence fellos for such pokai ingrish? We should really blame the education system that have relegated and even mock at the English Language as a foreign form of colonization and capitalism threatening the survival of a language ie. race Those who claim English as their mother tongue are frowned upon and their loyalty seemed to have been questions.
But the real truth is the fear that if you have a mastery of English, the traditional political power base of the ruling elites who sort to create a feudal state will collapse. There is real fear that knowing English means opening the minds of their political power base! Seriously, how many Bahasa Melayu news talk about those issues and topic in English publications? Let's suppose if al Jazeera or CNN or BBC or IHT or NYT wants to produce a free Bahasa Malaysia edition and distribute it to BolehLand rural and urban folks, will they be allowed? The translation of the Bible into Bahasa Melayu is enough to rest the case on such suspicion above, no?
But these days, we promote communication ingelish. As long as it sounds englandable, it need not be powderful taip of ingeris right?
Blame it on the sms generation which if one watches the local chat channel, you need a special sms street Generation Y dictionary to understand even what is being typed in Bahasa Melayu. What not of English huh?
It isn't any surprising anymore that there will be terror merror BolehLand England on both government or corporate websites. After all, we have tried so hard to get rid of our colonial past which includes removing English language as even a national language or one that is important for us to have that competitive age!
We are happy living in our own kampong setting and environment. The government has no fear listing Felda Global Ventures because its leader is saying it will enable it to conquer the global oil palm market! Not sure how going public listed will help those Felda settlers feel they are part of the global oil palm market! Similarly too 90% of those Mesdaq listed companies also claim going public will help them penetrate the global market, using the tone same like computer penetration, huh? Wonder how much of penetration these Mesdaq companies have made with regards to hardware and software, pun not intended though!
While it is not fair to fault the translator, no not Google though, one should fault the government and those in MOD for such attitude. We do wonder if we should fear if the sensitive military hardware we acquire are all in perfect Bahasa Melayu labels, manuals and instructions so that our bois know how to use them. And if not, a really super fast good machine translation software to convert French to Bahasa Melayu so that they will not engage in friendly fire or translate 'fire' as in 'fire the missile' not as 'peu' as 'api-kan peluru perpandu?' huh?
Given the language competency of our MOD bois in Bahasa Melayu, the 'kan felot or not, Scorpene' may not be due to any hardware or software issue but a 'lost in translation' of pressing the wrong button or issuing the wrong instruction because of the translation huh? But we are happy all is fine as supported by our junior CAT leader junior Lim who was fortunate to experience a ride of his life on it! Kudos to our defence fellos!
Probably the other uniformed and civil servants frontliners in MOD don't give much attention compared to those in the 'firing line' so to speak. After all, their loose cannon translations on the website speak for themselves of their attitude. They do a disservice to the rest of their comrades or are all of them in the same boat?
While it would be arrogant of this blogger to think oneself highly just because his mother tongue is English, I'd be ridiculed by the MOD bois if they challenged me to translate even the 'pokai poke eye' standard england into the halus (refined) form of Bahasa Melayu right?
So to be fair to our MOD translators, we should resist making disparaging remarks or belittle them, since they tried, because it may backfire. We can be accused of targeting a race and language and even religion and God gets thrown in. For mocking our heroes and race, royalty, language and God, we will be branded as second class citizens and the every ready demand these days of booting you out of this Tanah Melayu for mocking the pure sons of the soil, right?
So to find a place in this Tanah Melayu, we need to be humble sikit and we must all take the blame too right? After all, as a country we should be proud of how our leaders and especially the Ministry of Education are preparing us to be the best democracy in the world and also compete globally and even more successful by learning English in Maths and Science will at least for the lucky ones and also don't forget we need to public list ourselves too!
In BolehLand these days, the goverment fellows are not worried about the grammar or context of how they write in English. As long as the England is curry or kurma powderful or as long as we can communicate communication English and at least verbally it sounds like, is like and is England sounding (not necessarily QE's standard or those pseudo mat salleh Kim Kardashian stuffy nasal slang of the Melayu or Cina or India baru generation), the translation or even the spelling for that matter is secondary right? Like this written message below which can get one into a civil service job, yes even into the MOD.
Defence ministeri pokai eye england is simptom off degardin standerd of inglish. tis kampung mental-liti is OK as long v can paham what v wan2say, u noe rite? so brader uols pilis, relaks sikit, dun actkus my ingris tak d powderful lah, kan or not.
