Welfare State vs Money to Fair Well

Once again billions of ringgit are going to be given out free as promised in the budget by 1Malaysia. And the goodies, the BN government goes at length to stress has nothing to do with the election or enticing the public to think favourable of them. But this is exceptional spoon feeding and based on their track record come nearing election they dole out billions of freebies. Isn't this some form of corruption or is MACC dismissing it as development money?

The prime minister pledged cash assistance in the form of one-off RM500 payments to all households with monthly incomes below RM3,000, schooling assistance of RM100 for all primary and secondary students from Year 1 to Form 5 as well as RM200 book vouchers for all Malaysian students in public and private local institutions of higher learning, matriculation and Form 6 students....media reports elsewhere.

If the 1Malaysia and BN fellows are insistent it is not an election budget, why is there a reminder in their walkabouts and meet the people session to repeat about all that goodies going out. We even have jokers the taxpayers and the public to be grateful for what 1Malaysia has done? Like as if they are using their own money or they have been honest custodians of taxpayers money!

In all budget announcements, they announce and promise this and that and there are no concrete policies on how to implement them. It is now that they are saying ... we are working on how to distribute the money!!! Isn't that typical government mentality? Entice the gullible public with the too true to be true promises and then create the mechanism. And if it proves too expensive and impracticable, then they will tell us it's unworkable because the countless committees set up (and these members get paid for overtime and all kind of expenses to prepare the report) came up with lots of impossibilities!!!

If that is how the government does things, promise first then see how or if it can work later!!! Essentially, one should not believe anything in the budget promise then because there are always instances the civil servants don't know a  hoot what was announced. And the public gets frustrated when they can't get answers. The best thing to do now is to just take it with bucketfuls of salt.

By dishing out billions is 1Malaysia doing a once every five years charity? Is BN trying so hard they are being charitable and concerned about the poor and those earning meager income? Instead of dishing out money that can be spent on other needs, why not pass a minimum wage law or mandate companies pay our locals that minimum pay so that they earn more so avoid handing out welfare money to the underpaid?

Start with GLCs that are earning billions and isn't it a sham, shame and farce to use taxpayers money to pay these employees because the company are not paying them enough? These billion dollar profit making GLCs are keeping the billions and the government is using taxpayers money to ensure they get decent food on the table! Where's the logic huh?

So we still think 1Malaysia is really concerned about the welfare of the people with this lump sum payment?! Promote more food growing than set up more cheap discount outlets. Why not compel those supermarkets to sell at reasonable prices instead of giving taxpayers money for families to spend it up in a month?

Since the book aid and some are for all irrespective of income level, 1Malaysia is making his government turn BolehLand into some welfare state, - at least once in four years or so, huh?

So are the billions of ringgit being handed out show 1Malaysia as a charitable caring soul and the government turning into a welfare state? Or, is the billions of ringgit money given out so that they can fair well in the coming by-elections? Is the charity a buy-election gimmick than a genuine concern to create a high income society based on handouts than self help huh?

If our own people seem to get so lowly paid job and unemployed, why the government allowing our own people to become even lazier by inviting millions of legal and allowing illegal millions to stay here huh?

If you stop this migrant business, a modern slavery system really, the local will be forced to take what they have. After all beggars are not choosers especially when a government likes to proudly proclaim to the world we have lots of poor fellos who need government welfare, albeit once in four or five years!

Is it a cool action to only give out what is more form than the real substance in tackling the underlying issues that have caused 1Malaysia to give out these handouts?
